If you moved into your Orlando apartment hoping to boost your tan and enjoy some serious beach time, you’re probably a little disappointed right about now. The Orlando area is technically landlocked. Don’t fret though; Orlando happens to be in one of the best spots to visit several of the state’s best beaches. It’s sort of the midway point between the two coasts, so you can really enjoy the best of both worlds by living in this city.

If you’re looking for fun things to do and a day at the beach appeals, your biggest decision is going to be whether to turn east or west on Interstate 4. East will take you to the Atlantic coast where some serious beach and surf action awaits. West will point you in the direction of the Gulf of Mexico and some of the coolest warm-water beaches in the United States.

Three of the top beaches that are all within day-trip driving distance of Orlando include:

#1. Daytona

Yes, your Orlando apartment is the perfect launch point for a day at this most notable of Florida beaches. Considered by many to be the most historic and noted vacation beach in the world, Daytona is home to not only some incredible surf action, but also racing, Spring Break fun and more. Although, remember, the surf on the east coast can get a little hairy from time to time. Paying attention to water safety is very wise when this South Florida beach is the destination.

#2. Fort Lauderdale

It might not be quite as popular as its east coast neighbor Daytona, but this beach comes close. Here you will find some incredible year-round fun in the sun and sand, plus tons of shopping, dining and partying opportunities. The same Atlantic Ocean precautions do exist for hitting his beach.

#3. Clearwater Beach

If you want to head west on I-4 toward the Tampa area, Clearwater is a must see for a beach lover. This coveted west coast beach is fast becoming almost as popular as Daytona and Ft. Lauderdale for spring breakers. Plus, those who opt for Clearwater Beach will find the Gulf waters are almost always very warm and inviting. The beachfront, too, is amazing to take in. Other west coast beaches worth exploring are found in nearby Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Dunedin and Hudson.

Fun things to Do and See in Daytona, Ft. Lauderdale and Clearwater Beach:

Orlando might not boast its own beaches, but it has location on its side. If a day at the beach is in the cards, just get on I-4 and drive. Either way, you’re soon to find yourself taking in the view of some incredible coastline.
