If you’re a pack rat and you want to change your ways, the recent passing of National Pack Rats Day might prove to be the perfect inspiration to get you going in the right direction. There are some excellent things you can do to help improve office organization, home organization and even organization of your personal life. Just because the official day came and went on May 17 doesn’t mean there isn’t time to turn over a new leaf.

So, how can you get started in the process? A lot depends on what exactly you’re looking to improve upon. Tips for home and office organization can vary a bit from how to organize your life. The benefits of doing any of the three – and especially all of the three - however, are clear. When your environment is better organized, less cluttered and less crazy, stress levels tend to go down. Plus, you’re likely going to look like you’re more on top of things (even if you’re not).

Here are some great tips anyone can use to help organize their Orlando apartments, offices or even daily time schedules:

Toss out the junk

This is the first step to organizing a room, and entire home, a desk or even a life. If you don’t use it and you don’t need it, get rid of it. In the home and office, items that haven’t been used for more than a year should be carefully considered for the circular file. If they aren’t valuable and don’t have sentimental value, heave them out. Any items that are unwanted or unneeded, but functional can go to charity. This will make you feel better about tossing out your precious stuff. In regard to personal life, “tossing out the junk” can apply to obligations that are not necessary or enjoyable. Here are a few places to donate gently used goods in Orlando.

Take everything out of a room

This can help with office organization and home organization both. Remove everything from the space in question – before or after sorting out the junk – and then come up with a game plan for better organization before putting it back in. Consider what items will be needed and/or used the most and leave those in easy-to-reach spots. Everything else can be stored in cabinets, boxes or special spaces.

Don’t fall back into the habit

Once you get your Orlando apartment or office cleaned out, don’t let yourself fall back into the pack rat habit. Endeavor to keep your environment clean and keep ridding yourself of extra things you don’t really need as you go along.

National Pack Rats Day is gone until next year. If you want to celebrate in a different way next year, there are things you can do to streamline your home and work environments and your personal life, too. Chances are you’ll be very glad you did.
